the first one is from UK and talks about people spitting in bus drivers face and DNA kits, or ’spit kits’ as they call it!?!? got it in from boing boing – “London bus-drivers carrying DNA kits for catching face-spitters London bus-drivers are being equipped with DNA sample kits with which to capture spittle when irate passengers spit on them.”.

the second story is from USA and Hurricane Katrina… it seems that the guy, named Marc Morice, who saved same people with a boat, is being sued for using it without permission…

MISSED BIKE

and also in my small local life some lowlife took my bike. argh!

I don’t get it why supposedly normal people still buys those ten euro stolen bicycles, do they really think they’re smarter than the rest of us?

If it’s about price, why don’t you buy them recycled 2nd hand as I do? I leave the site here for you – www.recycledbicycles.org , I do think that 30-50 euros for a bike is a nice and honest price, don’t you?

we are seeing lots of people trying to help, trying to inform, trying to put people in contact, also collecting money, and unfortunately there is also people trying to get advantage of this all situation… let’s hope the good guys win.

one thing i see that for me is somehow interesting is that the ham people still is typically a good bunch of people, because we start to look in a group that works in telecommunication and helping others and you see them everywhere and in good numbers. a very good example is the VoIP team from Part-15.org, in that list you have, and just to give some names / cases, the Mark from Asterisk / Digium (the open source PBX VoIP that everyone is talking about), the Jeremy from Nufone and Mark Cohen from the Jhai project deploying Pedal Powered PCs and VoIP in Laos as well…

the links i am publishing here are influenced by my attraction to follow one theme that i think is very very important nowadays: the use you can give to the new technologies in places that suffered some natural or not so natural devastation. i am talking about reestablishing communications, give tools to the various organizations that are trying to work side by side. all that coordination and also the talking to the base has to go trough some new channels, and for that you can use Wi-Fi, long distance Wi-Fi, Mesh networks, VoIP, satellite IP communications, and of course all the natural group-ware (web) software you can get to put all those people talking to each-other and to theirs mother-ships…

ASCII has a interesting translation “Amsterdam Subversive Center for Information Interchange”.

The project involves a place (in a squat), where you can use the internet, get to learn things about it, and there is lots of recycling, use and abuse of open source.

It’s a very nice project and I intend to learn much more and maybe try to help wherever I can.

I will listen to talk at the WTH – “Community wireless NL”, Wireless networks in Amsterdam and Leiden (Rudi Van Drunen, Jaap and Rop Gonggrijp), where there will be some talk about another very interesting project… – Amsterdam Network Collective – een draadloos (internet) netwerk in Amsterdam.

We will see.

– o Internet bookmobile que é uma carrinha com ligação à internet de banda larga por satélite e através da qual podemos navegar na Internet e escolher um livro dos milhares disponíveis e que já estão no domínio público, utilizando o arquivo – archive.org (fotos) e ainda saímos de lá com uma versão impressa na impressora laser que têm na carrinha – como aliás podem apreciar na foto do lado.
– o projecto de VoIP na Indonésia – VoIP Merdeka.
– e o projecto do Butão.

E ainda um artigo no Register inglês sobre o assunto.

Uma das redes que pode eventualmente ser usada como backbone de uma rede sem fios num país em vias de desenvolvimento será a RBGAN, que tem actualmente um custo de utilização semelhante ao GPRS (GSM), sendo no entanto praticamente omnipresente e portanto isenta de roaming que é normalmente mais caro. Por ser concorrente do GPRS tende a aumentar a velocidade, que é actualmente de 144 Kbps e quem sabe talvez venha a ser comercialiazada em regime flat fee (sem custo em função do volume de tráfego e tempo).

Por curiosidade no google encontrei um professor Jens Jakobsen da universidade Aalborg da Dinamarca que tem uma proposta curiosa. E que cita as palavras de Kofi Annan:

The new information and communications technologies are among the driving forces of globalization. They are bringing people together, and bringing decision makers unprecedented new tools for development. At the same time, however, the gap between information “haves” and “have-nots” is widening, and there is a real danger that the world’s poor will be excluded from the emerging knowledge-based global economy. … We need to think of ways to bring wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) applications to the developing world, so as to make use of unlicensed radio spectrum to deliver cheap and fast Internet access. As outras que se ouvem também são infelizmente: mortes, incontrolado / descontrolado, falta de meios, desorganização, falta de coordenação, fogo posto, mão criminosa, pânico, cercados pelas chamas, muito fumo, o vento mudou de direcção, presidentes das juntas, apoio da população, sem água, sem electricidade, falta de meios aéreos, atraso na resposta, aumento da temperatura, a judiciária está no terreno, solidariedade na população, e morte… maioritariamente de idosos e voluntariosos!

é muito triste mesmo…

Uma Avó é uma mulher que não tem filhos, por isso gosta dos filhos dos outros. As Avós não têm nada para fazer, é só estarem ali. Quando nos levam a passear, andam devagar e não pisam as flores bonitas nem as lagartas. Nunca dizem “Despacha-te!”.

Toda a gente deve fazer o possível por ter uma Avó, sobretudo se não tiver televisão.
