European Film Show – 11 a 20 de Julho

On these small video you can listen and see André Viane (in portuguese), the person behind Cineclube Tavira and he himself is the projectionist on the film showing at open air on Claustros do Convento do Carmo, in Tavira, Algarve, Portugal.

… Later on the beginning of August there will be the Non European film show.

Creating the programme of the 2008 Film Shows was not an easy task. Every year our choice of films is partially determined by their availability on the national distribution market. During the past year, our distributors have considerably lowered their stakes on films from both Asian and South-American countries, not to mention African countries, whose cinema production is very rarely and often never screened in Portugal.

One of the results of this play safe policy is that the programme for the Non-European Film Show weighs heavily on the side of North-American productions. We have endeavoured to be as diverse as possible in our selection, whilst remaining faithful to our main criteria of choice, which are quality and sensitivity of treatment of the subject. We hope that our programme, and the ambiance created around it, will appeal to you!

My greetings to André Viane for organizing these events and also for having these small interview with me.

These small movie was recorded on my nokia e61i phone so i am sorry for the bad quality pictures on it. but i suppose that content can be more important.

As for what André Viane says in the video and very very briefly and not so accurate (sorry André):

He says that more people come to see the movies here on the summer open air shows than in the downtown cinema. He thinks that must be because of the good and balanced selection they make and also and mostly because of the ambience of these particular place.
The idea behind these open air projections also includes our common vision of “cinema paradiso” of Giuseppe Tornatore.
After that he tells us a small story the renovation of the place and that he is against the complete renovation of the open space, because it would spoil the magic.

Programar as Mostras de Cinema deste ano não foi simples. Todos os anos o nosso programa é condicionado pela disponibilidade dos filmes no mercado nacional de distribuição. Acontece que durante o passado ano os nossos distribuidores apostaram substancialmente menos em filmes oriundos de países asiáticos ou sul-americanos, para não falarmos dos países africanos, cuja produção cinematográfica raramente ou nunca chega a ser vista em Portugal.

O resultado desta política pouco aventureira é que o programa da nossa Mostra de Cinema Não-Europeu está repleta de filmes produzidos nos Estados Unidos. Tentámos diversificar ao máximo a nossa escolha, mantendo sempre os critérios principais, que são a qualidade e a sensibilidade ao nível do tratamento do tema. (very very late because we are now on week 14 so i have six more to go…)

This is an exhibition that is called Shalechet (fallen leaves) and the author is the israeli artist Menashe Kadishman, you can find it on the Jewish Museum Berlin (www.juedisches-museum-berlin.de).

I hope to post some more videos about Berlin in the next days, i love(d) that city, its really alive and kicking. …oh, and its huge also!

My knowledge on footbal is almost none, but I will try to be accurate.
Sporting is a footbal club in Portugal. And in the year 2000 it won the Portuguese National Cup, that victory was preceded by many years of trying to win it.
And so the party was amazing, and this pictures were taken in Lisbon on that night.

I went and fetched one and a “half” tapes of a visit I did to Fátima Sanctuary in Portugal, I have to say that I am not catholic and so I went to see what was the scene. It was on May 13th of 2000 and on those particular days the Pope John Paul II visited the place and told the third secret of Fátima.

I want to do some movies about this trip, but today is to late and so I leave you with just this, I recorded this minutes after getting there for the first time.

Today it was another day without anytime to do anything on our NaVloPoMo07. this images were recorded on saturday and here you have them.

I promise to try and do some editing and also because that is what i fear most, i always think my edited stuff loses rhythm and so i really have to try and educate and train myself this month, and i am sure the comments on that stuff should teach and make me improve it.

For now i have this moving picture and sound to offer, hope it is entertaining.

more seagulls this time i recorded them on lisbon on the dock. in this video i tried one trick called smoothcam, it was not so interesting in the first take, but it takes so much time to render that i am not going to turn off that filter on the first clip, the second benefits of the filter… bah. enough rumbling geek stuff.

i hope its more relaxing, especially after Robert Croma of yesterday that i just seen some minutes ago (“The Natural History Museum”).

I have lots of video to watch, sorry for that. i blame it on work.

this is the view from my window here in Amsterdam, we are damn lucky for that canal and what i love most is to see the seagulls running at our window.
