This one should be really great to watch!

… Later on the beginning of August there will be the Non European film show.

Creating the programme of the 2008 Film Shows was not an easy task. Every year our choice of films is partially determined by their availability on the national distribution market. During the past year, our distributors have considerably lowered their stakes on films from both Asian and South-American countries, not to mention African countries, whose cinema production is very rarely and often never screened in Portugal.

One of the results of this play safe policy is that the programme for the Non-European Film Show weighs heavily on the side of North-American productions. We have endeavoured to be as diverse as possible in our selection, whilst remaining faithful to our main criteria of choice, which are quality and sensitivity of treatment of the subject. We hope that our programme, and the ambiance created around it, will appeal to you!

My greetings to André Viane for organizing these events and also for having these small interview with me.

These small movie was recorded on my nokia e61i phone so i am sorry for the bad quality pictures on it. but i suppose that content can be more important.

As for what André Viane says in the video and very very briefly and not so accurate (sorry André):

He says that more people come to see the movies here on the summer open air shows than in the downtown cinema. He thinks that must be because of the good and balanced selection they make and also and mostly because of the ambience of these particular place.
The idea behind these open air projections also includes our common vision of “cinema paradiso” of Giuseppe Tornatore.
After that he tells us a small story the renovation of the place and that he is against the complete renovation of the open space, because it would spoil the magic.

nokia n95 with microphone

Ok. Here we have two ways of plugging a “normal” microphone to the Nokia N95 and vlog away with good sound capture…

I found this two videos that show two solutions to these problem:

Here’s a quick video that shows how you can use the Nokia Audio Controller AD-43 as an external microphone on a Nokia N95.
You can connect the Nokia headphones to this and then use the Audio Controller to talk while making phone calls or recording video.
The manual “Some headsets do not include a microphone.”
I’m interested in finding out if anyone has connected a microphone to this device to help record better audio when recording videos.
I know Nokia made a special microphone adapter for some AP news trials, but I have not been able to learn more about that yet.

Many mobile journalists use N95 because of its quality video vice. The problem has been that there is need of a external microphone. Here is the solution. This video shows the use of radio mic and ordinary kabel mic.

And I think the Nokia Reuter’s kit also has some adaptor for the microphone…

Hope it suits you this simple solutions and i hope to see you videos with better sound off course.
I will try when i have one of those n95, mine is a e61i that captures 352×288 i think…

UPDATE (2008/05/06):
A new entry about external mic on N95, this time from shelbinator.com.
I just want to add that the difference between the terminal colors for input has to do with the different adaptors used, because shelbinator uses a nokia adaptor and Gunnar uses a generic adaptor and i suppose thats why the color/terminal used is different.

This is an exhibition that is called Shalechet (fallen leaves) and the author is the israeli artist Menashe Kadishman, you can find it on the Jewish Museum Berlin (www.juedisches-museum-berlin.de).

I hope to post some more videos about Berlin in the next days, i love(d) that city, its really alive and kicking. …oh, and its huge also!

My knowledge on footbal is almost none, but I will try to be accurate.
Sporting is a footbal club in Portugal. And in the year 2000 it won the Portuguese National Cup, that victory was preceded by many years of trying to win it.
And so the party was amazing, and this pictures were taken in Lisbon on that night.

For this NaVloPoMo experiment that we are doing, I really want to learn how to do the editing and get good pace and story telling. At the same time I intend to review some of my miniDV and HDV archive and explore that as a way to try new things with these old material. Most of these tapes were solely recorded and never played…

I went and fetched one and a “half” tapes of a visit I did to Fátima Sanctuary in Portugal, I have to say that I am not catholic and so I went to see what was the scene. It was on May 13th of 2000 and on those particular days the Pope John Paul II visited the place and told the third secret of Fátima.

I want to do some movies about this trip, but today is to late and so I leave you with just this, I recorded this minutes after getting there for the first time.

What we see here is the Communist and Green Party Alliance (CDU) candidate, Jerónimo de Sousa, doing campaign on Chiado street, that is in downtown Lisbon.

Today it was another day without anytime to do anything on our NaVloPoMo07. this images were recorded on saturday and here you have them.

I promise to try and do some editing and also because that is what i fear most, i always think my edited stuff loses rhythm and so i really have to try and educate and train myself this month, and i am sure the comments on that stuff should teach and make me improve it.

more seagulls this time i recorded them on lisbon on the dock. in this video i tried one trick called smoothcam, it was not so interesting in the first take, but it takes so much time to render that i am not going to turn off that filter on the first clip, the second benefits of the filter… bah. enough rumbling geek stuff.

i hope its more relaxing, especially after Robert Croma of yesterday that i just seen some minutes ago (“The Natural History Museum”).

I have lots of video to watch, sorry for that. i blame it on work.

Encontrei agora mesmo na última hora do Público (fonte Lusa) uma boa notícia para quem gosta de passear e viver em Lisboa.

Finalmente vamos ter um esforço, espero eu, visível para devolver a cidade às pessoas e diminuir a alarvidade de carros que invadem, ou será infestam, os passeios e onde podem…

Lisboa: “tolerância zero” ao estacionamento ilegal a partir de hoje

A Câmara Municipal de Lisboa inicia hoje uma campanha para “libertar os passeios de carros”, e “contrariar o estacionamento de carros em segunda fila”, tal como prometeu António Costa na campanha eleitoral.

A câmara pretende criar uma “cidade sem barreiras” com o objectivo de que os “habitantes possam usufruir do espaço público da cidade” e libertar áreas utilizadas por viaturas, de forma abusiva e ilegal pelos automobilistas.

Neste sentido a câmara vai reforçar o policiamento, já a partir de dia 12, numa “primeira fase” desde o eixo do Campo Pequeno até ao Marquês de Pombal incluindo o Parque Eduardo VII, estendendo ainda do Largo do Rato até às avenidas Infante Santo e Dom Carlos I, informa a autarquia.

Para dar cumprimento ao reforço policial na cidade, a Polícia Municipal (PM) vai abrir um novo parque de viaturas rebocadas em Benfica, a norte do Centro Comercial Colombo, para onde transportará as viaturas em infracção, informou o comandante desta força policial, o subintendente André Gomes.

O comandante da Polícia Municipal disse à Lusa que é “necessário desimpedir vias para o tráfego fluir”, explicando que os automobilistas algumas vezes param em segunda via bloqueando o normal fluxo de trânsito.

Nas novas instalações de Benfica da PM, também irá funcionar um posto de atendimento policial, em simultâneo com o parque de viaturas rebocadas, seguindo o objectivo de “aproximar a segurança da polícia camarária aos munícipes”, esclareceu o comandante André Gomes.

I find this article and this idea obvious and had to happen sooner than later. This and the Ustream kind of broadcasts is really going to disturb the status quo of the broadcast media, at list in terms of the way you can do it.

“traditional” media is going to add this to their already big bag of tricks, but anyway this is not going to change the opened possibility for anyone to make a tv internet show with lots of not so expensive tricks

Why would the big four music companies agree to let Apple and others distribute their music without using DRM systems to protect it? The simplest answer is because DRMs haven’t worked, and may never work, to halt music piracy. Though the big four music companies require that all their music sold online be protected with DRMs, these same music companies continue to sell billions of CDs a year which contain completely unprotected music. That’s right! No DRM system was ever developed for the CD, so all the music distributed on CDs can be easily uploaded to the Internet, then (illegally) downloaded and played on any computer or player.

In 2006, under 2 billion DRM-protected songs were sold worldwide by online stores, while over 20 billion songs were sold completely DRM-free and unprotected on CDs by the music companies themselves. The music companies sell the vast majority of their music DRM-free, and show no signs of changing this behavior, since the overwhelming majority of their revenues depend on selling CDs which must play in CD players that support no DRM system.

So if the music companies are selling over 90 percent of their music DRM-free, what benefits do they get from selling the remaining small percentage of their music encumbered with a DRM system? There appear to be none. If anything, the technical expertise and overhead required to create, operate and update a DRM system has limited the number of participants selling DRM protected music. If such requirements were removed, the music industry might experience an influx of new companies willing to invest in innovative new stores and players. This can only be seen as a positive by the music companies.

Much of the concern over DRM systems has arisen in European countries. Perhaps those unhappy with the current situation should redirect their energies towards persuading the music companies to sell their music DRM-free. For Europeans, two and a half of the big four music companies are located right in their backyard. The largest, Universal, is 100% owned by Vivendi, a French company. EMI is a British company, and Sony BMG is 50% owned by Bertelsmann, a German company. Convincing them to license their music to Apple and others DRM-free will create a truly interoperable music marketplace. Apple will embrace this wholeheartedly.

Liberdade da Mulher

Resposta a uma mulher com o nome Mariana que escreveu um breve comentário no blog dos jovens pelo sim.

Minha Querida Mariana,

É verdadeiramente surreal que se sirva de imagens de abortos.

Está visto que quer continuar a encher a sua galeria de fotografias com mais abortos, pois normalmente são fotos de abortos ilegais e executados sem qualquer condição.

E olhe, se não tem capacidade de argumentação então não partcipe. Espero que também seja contra as várias guerras que existem em todo o mundo bem como espero que apoie todas as crianças que já existem em todo o mundo e que sobrevivem sem condições.

Se acha realmente que todas as crianças devem ser desejadas e amadas pelo(s) seu(s) pai(s), também poderia partilhar connosco se já é mãe, se está a pensar adoptar ou se na realidade quer que os filhos do “código penal” que tanto deseja que existam, sejam na realidade crianças e futuros adultos que não são desejados nem têm direito a qualquer amor de seus pais.

Provavelmente até é contra a adopção por parte dos casais homosexuais. O que é deveras interessante de todos os pontos de vista. Restringe assim o acesso a um universo de pais e mães que efectivamente desejam e estão dispostos a dar um lar harmonioso para mais crianças sedentas desses lares.

E elas efectivamente existem e são muitas as que estão por adoptar.

E como mulher? Pelo menos pelo nome pressuponho que o seja, acha mesmo interessante que a partir do momento em que tem uma gravidez deve ficar sem qualquer direito de decisão do seu próprio futuro, acha mesmo razoável que uma mulher possa ficar refém de algo que é absolutamente dependente dela até pelo menos os 6 meses e que como tod@s sabemos é na realidade dependente de nós até morrermos.

Isso a mim não soa a nada de maravilhoso, a mim, quase que parece uma maldição, e na realidade não imagino a carga que pode ter nesse contexto qualquer relação sexual, pois qualquer meio de protecção pode falhar.

E sabe Mariana, garanto-lhe que tudo isso não tem rigorosamente nada a ver com o desejo de ser mãe ou pai, pois creio que quer os pais quer os filhos têm o direito de ser desejados e de ter uma relação aceite por tod@s e não imposta por ninguém, muito menos por uma lei inscrita no código penal.

E o seu “Não” é portanto pelo Não direito da mulher de decidir pela sua própria vida e ainda mais tendo em conta que muitas jovens adolescentes já podem ser mães… está mesmo a retirar a possibilidade de decisão sobre uma ainda tão curta vida. É triste e ainda mais sendo uma mulher a fazer essa campanha. muito triste.

Eu voto SIM!

Pois desejo que uma mulher possa viver a sua sexualidade em liberdade e que a não perca num momento de tomar uma decisão tão importante como essa de gerar uma vida para este nosso mundo.

Everyone is talking about the iPhone from Apple and I wanted to add something.

Not having 3G is really dummy. even in EUA everyone is talking about EVDO and they are also talking about the 1.8Mbps plus cell network. its funny because we have it in Portugal already working.

Here in the Netherlands, where I am, its much more expensive and slow unfortunately.

Connected to that but also with the concept of comunication device I was/am expecting it to do iChat AV through wifi and 3G, so it is now missing a small front camera for that.

it is also missing a usb host interface for something you could think about…, and why didn’t they predicted the use of some flash memory card… there are now sizes of 4 GB… and so it could be very helpful.

Let’s hope these and also the 4 and 8 Gb versions get upgraded to something bigger and better.

I suppose that they will me messing with the iPhone and so the commercial version can be somehow different and better.

And last but not list, as Pedro Melo questioned, how can you do some programming on it? dashboard? some new API? how?

no problem. everyone will be talking until the day it sells, and even after that we will be still talking about that…

There is one more funny detail about all this, the guy from Cingular, made some menaces about anyone who hack the device or use it with another network… I am afraid it is going to be a bigger story by next summer.

ohhh well. I am still mostly waiting for Leopard OS.
